We have been getting good reports on walleyes from the river and up until a couple days ago most were boat fishermen. The pike have been harassing everyone including the crappie fishermen, who have been having limited success on crappie. Not a lot of perch action but some walleye out of Springbrook. If you fish Springbrook don't be in a hurry to leave there as the best bite can be just after the sun goes down. McGregor and Kota-Ray are also a couple lakes that can be good for early perch and the trout can fill in between the perch. Some guys who want big perch are looking at the area east of Bismarck where there is so many little lakes it looks like Minnisota on the map. Usually it does not take long to clean the big perch out but those who want two pound perch will go looking if they have to. White Earth and Tobacco have been seeing some portables and it should not be long till the big shacks make it out there. While ten inches will support a house and a vehicle the ice may sag around your house and get worse if the snow blows in around it so it is important to move your house away from open holes if you leave it over night. It is a bummer to come back to a froze down house. Spearing is also open all over the state with very few lakes not open this year, come in and talk to the guys if you want to trying hunting for big pike, it is extremely fun!
